I'm planning on installing a Bigsby on the 910, especially now that I've seen how great the Epi version looks on your guitar.Īnd I'd really like to get a white pickguard.
Then I discovered that the stock 950 pickups sound great through a Nocturne Atomic Brain (all hail Tavo Vega!). I was pondering swapping out the faux Filtertrons for the GFS Mean 90s. I initially thought that the 950's pickups sounded a bit anemic. Our Take: 1961 marks the birth year of Epiphones most successful archtop ever: the Casino, a thinline archtop that has achieved legendary status among rock. Because I liked the guitar so much, and because I wanted more of a feedback machine, within about a week of buying the 910 I bought a Xaviere XV-950, also in seafoam green-but a quite different seafoam green. The sound of the 910 is pretty hot, but it doesn't go easily into feedback. I called up a friend and fellow band member (the Foggy Headed Boys: we play about once a year at my firm's holiday party) and had him listen to the guitar over the phone.
When I first received it, I tuned it up, plugged it in, and started laughing at how good it sounds. Setting aside any differences in the pickups, the construction difference would be pretty significant.įor what it's worth, I think that the 910 sounds pretty darned good. But there is one big difference: your Epi is a true hollowbody, whereas my Xaviere is a semihollow. EG: It would be interesting to put the two side-by-side.
